hi.this site is sort of like a virtual shelf to put stuff on that I think others might enjoy or find useful. It's also meant as a catalogue for the things i'm interested in or have experience with, so as to lure interesting and clever people for potential collaborations. have a look around.
i learn best by doing and making things, which tend to be made from code, DNA sequences, wood, oil paint, photos, plants and words. my research interests are mostly biology or intersections therewith (is that a word?). Ive focused on themes asking how we can reconstruct ancient evolutionary dynamics, to better understand everything from drivers of disease and AI safety, but also developing circular bioeconomic solutions to managing earths resources.

st hilda's college and the department of zoology. Investigated endogenous viral elements with a focus on great tits. built some cool pipelines to identify and catalogue a huge corpus of retroviral integrations.
questions around the large scale evolutionary dynamics between viruses and their hosts, with a focus on two-way genetic exchange as part of the evolutionary arms race.
